In news that has been rumoured for quite some time now, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui and Ally Brooke, the four ladies in Fifth Harmony have announced that they are taking a break as a group to pursue solo careers.

In an announcement posted to Twitter the group said, “After six years going hard, non-stop, we also realized that in order to stay authentic to ourselves and to you, we do need to take some time for now to go on a hiatus from Fifth Harmony in order to pursue solo endeavors.”

They added, “To our Harmonizers, thank you for everything we have been able to build as Fifty Harmony. With your love and encouragement we will continue to build on ourselves, support ne another in everything we do, and keep making you proud, each other proud and ourselves proud.”

Needless to say, reaction has been swift online with fans showing sadness, but a lot of support for the girls.

Rumours of Fifth Harmony’s break up (although, it’s just being described as a hiatus) have been out for a while now, ever since former member Camila Cabello left the group back in 2016.

After her departure, the girls continued as a four-person group and they even released their third, self-titled album last year which featured songs like, ‘Down’ and ‘He Like That’.

Individually, the girls released solo efforts as well (which didn’t help quell breakup rumours).

Dinah Jane released, ‘Boom Boom’ featuring RedOne, Daddy Yankee and French Montana.

Lauren Jauregui dropped records with Marian Hill and most recently, ‘All Night’ featuring Steve Aoki.

Ally Brooke released a track with Topic called, ‘Perfect’ and Normani teamed up with Khalid on the record, ‘Love Lies’.

The group did reveal that they would still perform the remainder of the shows they have scheduled through the end of this year,

“We do have some upcoming shows through the end of the year which will still happen as planned, and we can’t wait! All our love, from the bottom of our hearts, Dinah Jane, Lauren, Normani and Ally xoxoxo.”

As sad as it is for fans of Fifth Harmony, they can likely take solace in the fact that another super group’s members went on hiatus and have had very successful solo careers since: One Direction.
