The cost of demolishing the current Sudbury Arena and building a convention centre, art gallery and library in it’s place would cost about 112 million dollars…a report headed to city council says.

The report says the convention centre will cost about 65 million and the art gallery/library will be 42 million.

They are to be built at the current Sudbury Arena site which has to be demolished at a cost of 4.5 million bringing the total project to a bill of 112 million dollars.

With these types of projects there is a possibility for some government funding but the city would have to pay for most of it.

A convention centre like the one the city is looking at is projected to be losing 275 thousand dollars a year after five-years, based on similar facilities across the country.

The report states that re-purposing the current arena would not be financially viable.
