Earthquakes Canada has confirmed a strong seismic event early this morning in Greater Sudbury.

That was Stephen Crane with Natural Resources Canada who says they are not sure what caused the event, if it was from mining or just an earthquake near the mine.

The earthquake happened around 3:10 am this morning 2.4 km underground and Vale says three smaller aftershocks followed the initial earthquake.

All employees were brought to the surface and are safe, operations at the mine site resumed this morning but are restricted below the 72 hundred level until background levels return to normal and the impacted area is inspected.
