California Man to Marry His Cat on Saturday to Raise Funds for Local Animal Shelter
This isn’t weird at all! On Saturday, May 23, a California man is marrying his cat to raise money for the shelter where he got her, according to?People. Scott Perry popped the question to Olivia, his cat of five years, and she responded with “meow!” Perry got the cat with his then-girlfriend in 2015 and he has been with the cat in quarantine for about two months. The non-binding wedding is meant to celebrate the joy of a shelter pet and the commitment of pet adoption. “My kitty has helped me stay sane during this lockdown. Pets allow us to have a warm, positive interaction with another living creature while we have to maintain distance from others,” Perry says.?Best Friends Animal Society, the shelter being helped, did not know about this fundraiser. They appreciate the humor and uniqueness of the gesture, but the organization doesn’t endorse “weddings” between people and pets. The wedding will be live-streamed on Perry’s Instagram page.?The “couple” has a website and a registry where people can donate to the shelter. They’re hoping to raise $5,000.
