Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Sudbury has been providing life changing mentoring experiences since 1972.

Vision

  • All young people realize their potential

Mission:

  • To enable life changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people.

Issue:

  • Many children and youth in Greater Sudbury struggle with societal barriers and face adversities in their lives like detrimental living conditions, family violence, risk factors for mental health, school issues and identity challenges. These circumstances have nothing to do with the value of who they are or who they can become, but because of these situations, children and youth risk not having the opportunity to live up to their full potential. Even worse is the possibility of continuing cycles of poverty and crime or developing mental health issues.
  • This comes at a cost to the young person, and to society.

Solution:

  • With the guidance and support of a mentor, these risks can be reduced or even avoided, and youth are reminded they can be anything they dream of being.

Ways you can help:

  • The Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentoring programs only require two regularly scheduled outings a month of a few hours each.
  • Volunteer with your partner or spouse and be matched to a Little Brother or Little Sister. This is a great way for both of you to give the gift of friendship to a child!

One to One Mentoring

Big Brothers Mentoring

***THERE IS AN URGENT NEED FOR “BIG BROTHERS”, WITH 28 YOUTH CURRENTLY WAITING TO BE MATCHED.***

The Big Brothers mentoring program provides boys and young men with a role model to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with. Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentor and the mentee, which is built on trust and common interests, and is supported by experienced case-workers. The result is a life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.
