Nicki Minaj took to her Instagram on Monday to unveil the first of two covers for her upcoming new album, Pink Friday 2, in which she wears a white coat in a hollowed-out MTA train flying over New York City. On Tuesday, Janet Jackson posted a throwback photo of herself in an oversized white coat, along with a GIF of Black-ish star Marsai Martin putting on a pair of shades. Some on social media interpreted this as Jackson throwing shade at Minaj, and wrote derogatory comments about Jackson underneath her post. But Janet soon dispelled the rumours with her own reply, “It’s a shame that people want to pit one artist against another.” When Minaj caught up to the situation, she responded with “Icon. Legend. Royalty. The original definition of #ICanBeAllTheWayCoveredItsSTILLgivingSEXY.”
