Lizzo’s attempt to have her sexual harassment lawsuit dismissed was thrown out by a judge in Los Angeles on Friday, meaning the case will now go to trial. Three ex-dancers filed the suit in August, alleging that the singer weight-shamed them, forced them to endure sexually denigrating behaviour, preached to them about sexuality and Christianity, and pressured them into participating in sex shows. Lizzo’s attorneys argued that many of the allegations were protected by free speech, and that the accusers were using the lawsuit to “silence” Lizzo. But the judge said the court would not “turn a blind eye to allegations of discrimination or other forms of misconduct merely because they take place in a speech-related environment.” Lizzo still maintains her innocence regarding all the allegations.
