A horse has tested positive for West Nile Virus in Greater Sudbury.

The Sudbury & District Health Unit says the animal tested positive after being bit by an infected mosquito.

It’s just the second time a horse has tested positive for West Nile virus in the area…the first was back in 2004.

There is no evidence that a horse can pass the virus to humans, but Health Unit will enhance its mosquito trapping in the area where the positive horse was identified.

So far in 2015, there have been no positive mosquito pools found in the Health Unit’s service area.
