City council took the mower to the Elgin Street Greenway project on Tuesday night as the main problem was the cost.

In 2013 the project that would link downtown to Bell Park cost an estimated 3.7 million, but it’s now up to 8.5 million.

Ward 4 Councillor Evelyn Dutrisac was part of council that brought forward the project and said there wasn’t enough detail in how it would be funded.

Ward 5 Councillor Robert Kirwan can’t see this as the time to spend that much money.

Council did approve a 250 thousand dollar upgrade to the Riverside underpass and directed staff to come back with a new financial plan for the greenway in June.
