Greater Sudbury is one giant step closer to having a new multi-disciplinary arts centre because of a 12.5 million dollar investment from the federal government.

Three million dollars came from FedNor for Place des Arts.

While Minister of Canadian Heritage Melanie Joly brought 9.5 million dollars through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, the second largest investment from that fund in Canada…ever.

Place des Arts is now 92% done it’s fundraising for the proposed 30 million dollar, 600 thousand square foot facility on Elgin Street downtown Sudbury.

Joly says this is a perfect project for the federal government to get behind.

They hope to get private funding and begin construction on the francophone arts centre by 2018.
