Science North’s spectacular Canada Day Family Celebration is back for another year to celebrate our country, people, culture, and values with FREE fun daytime activities, an evening concert and fireworks on July 1st!

The day will be filled with fun including live entertainment, kids activities, cool science, a stunning firework display and a whole lot more!

This alcohol-free family day takes place on the grounds of Science North and is FREE for all ages.

NOTE: The science centre opens at 10:00 am (accessible with admission) and the free Canada Day outdoor activities begin at 12:00pm.

KiSS Game Show Showdown
Your favourite game shows are hitting the main stage all with a KiSS twist! Be an audience member or get a chance to become a contestant.

Mike Ford
Mike Ford is a bilingual JUNO-nominated solo artist who has released five acclaimed albums of Canadian history-inspired songs. Using thought-provoking lyrics, humour and a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of Canadian History, Mike inspires young people to have a greater interest in Canada’s past, present and future.

YES Theatre
Since 2010, YES Theatre has become an integral part of the Northern Arts and Culture scene. They are the leading company for developing fostering the voice of young artists within our region. Past productions include Hair, Rent, Jesus Christ Superstar, In the Heights, Fiddler on the Roof, Hairspray, Billy Elliot, the YES Theatre Orchestra productions of Beauty and the Beast and The Sound of Music! This August The YES Theatre summer festival is featuring two incredible musicals, all summer long! Mamma Mia and James and the Giant Peach! Featuring an all-star company of artists.

Enjoy an afternoon full of entertaining activities for curious minds of all ages! Please join us and take part in all the fun with games, inflatables, cool science, face painting and more!

NOTE: the following activities are offered from 12pm to 5pm

  • Inflatable by A Maze N Fun – Can you escape in the fastest time? This brand-new maze with obstacles is a true family favourite.
  • Inflatable by It’s Not a Party Without Us! – Get ready for a jumping good time with the Racing Fun bounce castle!
  • Balloon Art by ABCreations – Visit the ABCreations booth for awesome balloon art you can take home!
  • Face Painters – Our professional face painters will have you looking like bugs, animals or superheroes for the day!

Evening Entertainment

Roller Rink Rewind

This ultimate bilingual retro dance band is known across Northern Ontario for their four part harmonies and rhythm section. Covering bands like The Beatles, ABBA, Prince, and Michael Jackson, Roller Rink Rewind’s set list will bring back memories from your favourite music decades of the past.

One Bad Son

This year we are proud to announce that headlining the main stage, leading up to the fireworks will be One Bad Son! Influenced by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Guns n Roses, and other classic groups, the band has spent years perfecting captivating live shows. One Bad Son are ready to rock your Canada Day!

Enjoy a spectacular fireworks display at approximately 10:15pm by David Whysall International Fireworks. The launch of fireworks is dependent on wind and weather and may be cancelled at any time before the show, right up until the last minute. Please call 705-523-4629 ext. 649 for updates.
